The Challenge

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Korea required a state-level cultural reception in Seoul to mark Emirati Women's Day — a UAE national observance — convening Korean government counterparts, Gulf and partner-embassy diplomats, the Emirati community in Korea, and Korea–UAE business and cultural stakeholders. The brief demanded a production partner who could simultaneously handle (a) diplomatic-protocol-level operational discipline, (b) a stage and spatial concept honoring UAE cultural identity rather than generic gala styling, (c) bilingual run-of-show with consideration for diplomatic seating and protocol toasts, and (d) reusable post-event content for the Embassy's diplomatic communication. Above all, the embassy required one accountable partner familiar with the standards expected of a foreign mission in Korea — and culturally fluent enough to honor a Gulf state's national observance with appropriate reverence.

REFAD's Approach

  • Unified in-house team — planning, design, video, technical production, and IT all delivered by a single REFAD team, removing vendor coordination overhead for the embassy's communications lead.
  • Cultural fidelity — stage and spatial concepts honoring UAE cultural and visual identity, with material, color, and lighting choices reflecting Emirati heritage rather than generic reception styling.
  • Diplomatic run-of-show — English and Korean cue sheets aligned with diplomatic protocol — Ambassador's address, national observances, toast sequence, VIP arrival flow, and partner-embassy seating coordination.
  • Embassy-grade content production — opening VCR and post-event sketch film produced as reusable diplomatic communication assets across the Embassy's channels.
  • On-site command — dedicated PM, technical director, and floor managers from REFAD's in-house technical division, briefed on diplomatic and Gulf-cultural protocol expectations.

Outcome

Emirati Women's Day was executed to the diplomatic-protocol standards expected of a Gulf foreign mission in Korea, with a single point of accountability. The post-event sketch film became a reusable diplomatic communication asset for the Embassy. Combined with REFAD's prior production of Sweden Day for the Embassy of Sweden, the engagement positioned REFAD as a multi-region embassy production partner — trusted by both European and Gulf foreign missions in Korea.
